Property tax returns for real estate must be filed with the Union County Tax Assessor at 65 Courthouse Street, Blairsville, GA between January 1 and April 1 of each year where property has changed or been acquired.
In Georgia property is assessed at 40% of the fair market value unless otherwise specified by law. (O.C.G.A. 48-5-7) Property is assessed at the county level.

The mission of the Tax Commissioner's Office is to bill, collect, and disburse all
taxes as prescribed by the laws of the State of Georgia and to act as the Motor
Vehicle tag and title agent for the State. Our goal is to perform these duties efficiently
and in a timely manner and to provide our citizens quality customer service.
Lee Knight was raised in Union County and attended Union County High School and
North Georgia College and State University. Lee worked for 25 years as a marketing
representative in the automotive business. Lee is a volunteer with the Boy Scouts
of America and has served with other community organizations and special events.
Lee took office on January 2, 2013.
